CONVENTIONS ANALYSIS AND MUSIC BRIEF
Here are the conventions for each kind of products.
Music Brief:

Genre research:
-Prezi is a good from for presenting this area. -Define what is meant by genre. -State a variety of different examples of music genres. (at least 20) -(Choose 4 key genres you want to show/explain in more detail) -Mood boards to represent general iconography/ interests related to genre -Exiting magazines related to genre -Audience profile of who listens to that music including: gender, social class, income, age and other interests excluding music. -Artists/ music videos of that genre -Summary of research/ findings -All areas need to be explained well and shown in a creative manner. |
Reader profile research:
-Explain what a reader
profile is.
-Show an existing reader
profile and break down each area and state why it is important for a magazine
to understand their audience and profile their readers. For e.g. what type of
audience does it attract? Gender ratio? Age or reader? Social class bracket?
Where they distribute? What makes it desirable/ the audiences want to consume
it?

My reader profile:
Design your own reader profile for your magazine, include the areas you noticed when researching in to other profiles. Include imagery and statistics (these will be made up accordingly to suit the target you are aiming to consume your product.)
Style/ iconography of my product:
-Create a video/mood board/sketches of the style your magazine will take. Look on Pintarest to gather ideas related to the genre/style of your genre and some stylistic elements you want to create.

-Posters/ artwork from existing bands in your genre.

Costume designs:
Create 3 costume looks for your artist that really demonstrates the genre of your magazine. Explain why you have chosen these outfits and explain why it will appeal to your target audience.
Mise-en-scene location and prop ideas:
-Show a variety of images and locations you would like to shoot your magazine, show where you may have got this inspiration from and why you feel it will appeal to you audience. -Demonstrate what props you feel would be desirable to use in your photo shoot for you magazine including musical instruments or other props you may have seen while conducting your research and explain why you have made these choices.
Colour scheme ideas, Name ideas and feature story ideas:
-From looking at exiting products show some colour swatches of successful colour schemes and decide on the colour scheme you will use for you product and explain your choice.
-Choose a variety of name ideas (at least 12) for you magazine and explain your choices. State what your final choice is for the name of your magazine and the reasons for this. -From looking at existing products state a variety of cover stories and content features that you think will appeal to your target audience.
Contents page house styles:
-Look at 3 contents pages from the same magazine (different issues) and explain how images and text (fonts, and sizes) are used to create a ‘convention/house style’ for that product.
Double page spread house styles:
-Look at 3 double page spreads from the same magazine (different issues) and explain how images and text (fonts and sizes) are used to create a house style.
Google mock up ideas:
-Using existing images from the internet;
-Use Photoshop to create:
1) mock up of a front cover;2) mock up of a contents page;
3) mock up of a double page spread.
